Not for Reading

Not for Reading is a typographic work that is deliberately made unreadable. It is neither a cipher nor a code with a hidden message. It points to nothing and cannot be fully understood by anyone. By refusing access to language—by letting letters appear as language while withholding meaning—the work questions our belief in a “universal” readability. It approaches language not as a neutral tool, but as a system that quietly draws borders: who can enter, who remains outside, and what kinds of experience are allowed to become legible. The printed surface becomes a threshold where reading turns into looking, and comprehension gives way to attention—toward the invisible limits that language imposes.
